The Artist

George Petrides (born 1964 in Athens) is a contemporary figure in monumental sculpture, practicing between Athens and New York. His work is defined by a constant exploration of the convergences between personal history, collective memory, and cultural heritage.

Public Space Sculpture

With more than thirty permanent works installed in seven countries to date (February 2026), Petrides has established a strong visual signature in international public space. His installations inhabit centers of power (The White House) and prestigious private spaces, while also engaging with healthcare, education, and sacred spaces.

Beyond commissions, his traveling exhibition Hellenic Heads: A Personal Exploration of Greek History and Culture (2022-2026) has emerged as a major cultural odyssey. Presented in ten major cities across the United States, Asia, and Europe, it engaged in a dialogue with more than 100,000 visitors, reaffirming the universal relevance of Hellenic archetypes.

Alliance of Hand and Technology

Anchored in the dual culture of Athens and New York, Petrides creates a unique synthesis of ancient statuary tradition and 21st-century innovation. His methodology, a true "dialogue between hand and machine," starts with traditional clay modeling. The work is then digitized (3D scanning and sculpting) before taking form through custom printing processes using eco-responsible and reclaimed materials. The finalization, whether in classical bronze or contemporary alloys, ensures the work's long-lasting integration into time.

Intellectual Background and Foundations

George Petrides' work is supported by an intellectual rigor forged at Harvard College (Bachelor of Arts in Classics, 1985) and Stanford University (Dual Master's, 1993). His training in classical humanities forms the theoretical foundation of his artistic research.

Before devoting himself exclusively to sculpture in 2017, Petrides led a prominent career in international finance, reaching the position of Managing Director at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. This path, far from being a detour, has fueled his work discipline. After two decades of parallel artistic practice, he returned fully to his primary calling, establishing himself today as a vital creator, merging historical research and avant-garde aesthetics.
